    Whoops! There it is!

    posted by matt | 07.11.08 | permalink | 2 comments

200px-Tag_Team_-_Whoomp!_(There_It_Is) This is quite an old songspeak, but I was reminded of Whoomp! (There It Is) by Tag Team last night while Jamie and I and a bunch of other dudes got together for a GNO (Guys’ Night Out). Usually our GNOs consist of getting together and going out to dinner, but we decided to kick it old school and play some Wiffle ball… then go to dinner.

wiffle-ball Speaking of wiffleball, I started singing Bono-style… “wiffle without you” to Kristen in the car on our way home from work in anticipation of the GNO wiffle ball game. She gave me a thumbs down on that one.

Mann's Chinese Theatre And speaking of Old School, on a recent trip to Martha’s Vineyard, I was driving in Edgartown and stopped to let a pedestrian across the street. The pedestrian was, in fact, Luke Wilson of Old School, Legally Blonde, and countless Wes Anderson movies fame. Kristen and Heather were in the car with me when I said, “Hey, look who it is.” matter-of-fact-ly. They shrieked with excitement. Luke Wilson is taller than I would have expected.

Anyway, getting back to the Whoomp! (There It Is) portion of this story… basically, my dad– who is quite the jokester– started singing… Whoops, there it is!  one time when he visited me. It’s been so long that I can’t remember the circumstances that led to it, but Jamie and I still joke about the misheard lyric to this day.

I want a slab of coleslaw, I want a ham and cheese

coleslawandhamandcheese I don’t really know why Rogue Wave places an order for lunch in their song, Ghost, but “I want a slab of coleslaw. I want a ham and cheese” is the first line of the song, I swear… I don’t know, maybe I should look it up…….

Okay, I looked it up online, and supposedly the lyrics really are “I want to slam the coastline. I want to hammer trees. You know I like it. You know I like it.”

I think my lyrics actually make more sense, though I have to say, I usually think coleslaw is pretty damn gross.

You can listen to a clip on iLike. Did you know the songspeak has an iLike page now?

We also have a Last.fm page too.

Sometimes I feel like the only cat in the road

    posted by matt | 04.21.08 | permalink | comment?

catInRoadThe real lyric is “Sometimes I think I’m the only cab on the road”, but Kristen likes to think that her version is better anyhow. Neither one of us is a Train fan, but somehow we like to joke about their song, Cab, from time to time.

I found this video on that YouTubes. I have no idea what it’s all about, but maybe the guy from Train could be a little more literal about the lyrics of the song in the video next time.

Oh, and speaking of cabs on the road, has anyone ever watched Cash Cab?
